Green Guru Gear

Green Guru Gear was started in 2005 to upcycle materials that are used or left over from the production process into new outdoor gear. In the past these materials were dumped into landfills or other waste streams because there was no good way to dispose of them. Now, many large companies are donating the leftover materials and defective gear to companies that have shown they are capable or reusing it and reducing waste.

When these materials arrive in Boulder Colorado they are sorted through and processed to be made into new products. Wet suits, bicycle tires, climbing rope, and fabric remnants become backpacks, wallets, belts and bike bags. They are very colorful designs and for some people that might be a turnoff. It is certainly going to get you some attention and give you the opportunity to tell other how you are helping save the planet.

I have used the Hauler seat bag and I can say it was great. I think there is this perception that recycled or upcycled products are not as high in quality as their \”new\” counterparts. While I am not directly involved in the the retail side of things, I image sales teams have heard this on many occasions. I think I have probably said in the past that I would rather spend a little more and buy new. Processing and manufacturing methods have greatly improved since the first days of recycled goods. Quality is not a concern anymore.

This misconception that we have of the upcycled world is changing but will take much more work to compete as large companies work to bring more products to market faster and cheaper. This is part of the reason we created this website. There are many companies in the USA that are doing great things but don\’t have the budget to reach the masses. We hope that we can help them in the growth.

Another interesting fact about Green Guru Gear is their warranty policy. They offer Limited Lifetime Warranty on manufacturing defects for the lifetime of the original owner of the product. While this is often typical for products that are made in the USA, it is not that common for many of the major outdoor brands that we are all familiar with.

Green Guru Gear is a certified B-Corp that strives to extend the product life of materials so we can all enjoy everything outside without the potential of seeing piles of trash from overconsumption.
